Every year around festival time Assembly Theatre, one of the three primary organisations that help facilitate and run the Edinburgh International Festival turn George Square (Edinburgh Uni) into one the funkiest trendiest and best attended venues at festival time.
The main issue is that the University gardens are covered in normal every day grass and with 10’s of thousands of people visiting and hanging around the gardens the grass can and will get wet and soggy and some years completely sodden and unusable if there is heavy rain.
Assembly required a solution that would ensure full use of the gardens over the complete duration of the festival without having to be constantly worried about rain, whilst also keeping the look and feel of a real garden for the Festival users.
Our aim was to help Assembly reach their goal of full use of the gardens from start to finish over the course of the whole of Edinburgh Festival.
Artificial grass was the way forward. Not only would we address the primary issues that George Square Gardens needed to be used for the whole term, but we would install in nice soft to the touch, thick grass that customers could sit on and feel comfortable enough to stick around for a few hours enjoying the ambiance.
The whole garden was pre-installed with a layer of 25mm board, which was then covered with soft rubber matting and then our 25mm Artificial Grass was laid, cut, trimmed and secured around the whole area.
George Square which is part of the Edinburgh Universities campus is now transformed from an ordinary park with normal grass into an event arena completely covered in Luxurious Artificial Grass that is unrivalled across the UK.
